The idea for the Cundiff Historical Society was planted by a 1979 high school assignment: interview a relative and write up your family tree. Ten years later, visits to the National Archives in Washington, D.C. fed the idea and a love of genealogy was rooted in place. In 2019, a collection of slides and family history was released on DVD and the Cundiff Historical Society was given a name.

The mission of the CHS is to collect, preserve, and share the history and culture of Noel and Mildred (Royse) Cundiff, their ancestors, and their native Adair County, Kentucky.
